The Sea of Cortez is an extraordinarily diverse marine environment. The northern end is cooler water, abounding with kelp forests and invertebrate life. The southern end is warmer, thick with coral reefs and tropical fish. The mid section is an amazing mix of coral, kelp, invertebrates, schools of jacks, hammerheads, puffer fish, angelfish, sea lions, and more.

Being at sea for a week or more means you'd better check and double-check your photo gear (and carry spares if you can.) These images were taken with a Nikon D200 DSLR and dual Sea&Sea strobes. Wide angles were shot with a 12-24mm Nikkor zoom lens, and the macro with a Nikkor 60mm Micro.
